Ethiopian Set to Start Direct Flights to Gabon March 14, 2006 - Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Facing strong demand for its services in the Gabon, Ethiopian Airlines is set to launch direct services to its capital, Libreville. Effective March 28, 2006 Ethiopian, will serve Libreville three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with same day return flights. Subsequently Ethiopian’s Addis Ababa- Libreville service will be enhanced by an additional Wednesday operations from June 03, 2006.
Ethiopian flight ET905 will depart from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on Saturdays at 08:50, with a stop-over in Douala, to arrive at Libreville Leon International Airport at 13:25. Return flight ET904 departs Libreville the same day at 14:10 for a non-stop flight to reach Addis Ababa at 20:50. On Tuesdays and Fridays, Ethiopian flight ET 915 will depart Addis Ababa at 08:50 to arrive in Libreville at 11:30. Return flight ET 914 will depart Libreville at 14:10 to arrive in Addis Ababa at 20:50, with a stop-over in Douala, for convenient connections to other Ethiopian destinations. All timings are local.
Ethiopian will operate its flights to Libreville with Boeing 757aircraft, offering a total capacity of 160 seats - 16 in Cloud Nine, 144 in Economy and cargo belly hold capacity of 9.1 tons.
The flight to Libreville is intended to meet the demands for our services from businessmen, traders, visitors, tourists and pilgrims to and from Gabon. When the service becomes operational, it will provide direct link to Addis Ababa and Douala, and convenient connections to the rest of Africa, Europe the Middle East, Asia, and vice-versa. Ethiopian flights to Libreville will bring Gabon closer to the world and will further catalyze and boost economic, social and religious relationships.
With over five hundred thousand inhabitants, Libreville is a port on the Gabon River near the Gulf of Guinea. The city contains almost half of Gabon’s population and has a significant traffic within the regional market. As the result of its small population of 1.4 million (2005 est.) and abundant natural resources including oil, Gabon has one of the highest per capita income in the region.
In April 2006, Ethiopian celebrates its 60th anniversary. Established in 1946, Ethiopian is Africa’s aviation pioneer known for its first ever-commercial service between East and West Africa. Currently Ethiopian flies to seven destinations in West Africa with daily flights to Lagos, four flights a week to Accra and Abidjan, and three times a week to Bamako, Douala, Lome and , N’djamena. In addition to the introduction of Service to Libreville, Ethiopian is set to resume service to Dakar, Senegal on March 26, 2006 and to Brussels, Belgium in June 2006. Commencement of service to Libreville brings Ethiopian destinations in Africa to 28 and to 45 worldwide.
