Ethiopia hosts ATA’s 32nd Annual Congress, which is devoted to branding Africa as a tourist destination. The event was held in the capital city of Addis Ababa, from May 6-11, 2007, under the auspices of Ethiopia’s Tourism and Culture Minister Ambassador Mahmoud Dirir.
ATA’s hallmark event was in time for Ethiopia’s Millennium Celebrations, which brought worldwide attention to the country as an emerging tourist destination.
Featuring work-shops, panel discussions, and a marketing expo, the week-long Congress offered travel experts net-working opportunities with ministers, heads of national tourism boards, and private sector investors. ATA had sent a planning delegation to Ethiopia in December to meet with officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. The team also met with CEO Girma Wake of Ethiopian Airlines, the Congress’s official carrier. Ethiopia sent a delegation to the U.S. in March for ATA’s Road Show. Delegates traveled to major cities to market the Congress and Ethiopia’s destinations.
